Grapevine socks -- One down

These are pretty gorgeous ... now to start the next one so I may actually be able to wear them at Bear Valley.

I must have thin ankles ... this is the third set of socks I've made and they are all too loose at the ankles, so I obviously need to take a next pair in. These will be great though for boot socks with a liner. The yarn is soft and non-scratchy, too.

I worked these on 3 or 4 different types of needles, trying the two circular needles method for the first time. I don't have size 0 Addis, so I've used another brand whose join isn't fabulous, and also found a European Inox metal pair. Unfortunately, both pairs are long and they get fussy and in the way, so I switched back and forth with wooden dpns. I ordered some Addis, they arrived during our frustrating move in, and I can't find them. Maybe when we move out? Posted by Picasa

On Beauty

What a great title ... can't wait to find out what it really means.

I've had the book about a year -- it's now out in paperback. But decided I'd better re-read Forster's Howard's End first as the books seem to be related in style/narrative. The New Yorker had a recent article about Leonard Woolf, and it seems that Forster was one of his "set", and Howard's End took quite a long time to write. Great book! But could it be written today?

Moving on ... December

Still cold, blustery and icy. Probably will be like this for months now!

Had a wonderful (and full) Thanksgiving with a great group, including the Sharmans from Almaty. Have been placing catch up every since, with the house still busy every day with workers of some kind of another. Can't always find things when we want them -- couldn't find the stuffed animal turkey, but found that this week. Now I'm looking for the velvet holiday runner.

Got the Christmas tree decorations out yesterday -- as always, memory lane. Chose a few to take with us to CA.

Haven't had internet for about 5 days, due to a cut cable in town. Before that, the phones weren't working. Always something!

Keeping Amazon.com busy and making shopping lists for the cabin. John has finished the annual Xmas letter with great pics!

Always something new in the US -- just found out about "tart" popourri candles from Eileen. She gave me a divine scent from Yankee Candles - sage and citrus. Of course I ordered some. I gave her some so-strong-I-couldn't stand them candles from the Vermont country store ... oh well!
